Consult your awning service manual or contact the manufacturer about applying a protective coating to the awning after it has been cleaned.
How do you clean an awning.
Whether you have a canvas vinyl or aluminum awning doing a regular cleaning will keep it in a good condition for protection from sunny days to come.
The first step in cleaning an awning is to use a broom to sweep away any loose leaves dirt cobwebs or other debris.
Once you ve removed as much debris as you can spray your awnings with plain water.
Do this on a hot sunny day.
The next thing you have to do is roll up your awning.
Don t forget to sweep out the underside as well.
This works for both automated awnings and manual retractable awnings.
Let the mixture sit there for about an hour.
While you wait for the water to run off fill the bucket with lukewarm water and dilute the dawn.
Typically you will just need a cleaning solution brush water and a ladder to complete the cleaning.
If you need to use a ladder to reach the top be sure to exercise caution.
I like to do this every fall when i am already cleaning out my rv.
Take your shoes off before you step onto the awning.
Ask for help in moving the ladder and lifting your cleaning solution to minimize your risk of a fall.
This way i can just spray the awning and clean out the rv while the mixture is.
Rinse your awnings with clean water every month or so when they are in use.
First fully extend your awning and clean any large debris or bird droppings off that may have become trapped when the awning was retracted.
Once that s done use.
Thoroughly and completely rinse off your awning.
This is vital not only will you likely tread dirt onto the awning keeping your shoes on but that could include stones etc which could cause damage.
