Gap at all ends.
How is siding attached.
There are at least three alternative ways to do it.
The siding must be installed over a flat surface so unless you re siding a new home or have removed the old lap siding you ll need to line the wall with sheets of rigid foam board usually 1 2.
Nail a piece of plywood about 3 5 inches 89 mm thick along the top of the chalk line this will hold out the bottom of the first row of siding.
Go to the next corner and pull the line taut.
Use siding nails to attach the corners in the provided nail slots.
It may be made of wood fiber cement or pressed wood.
If the sheathing is solid plywood or osb you may be able to attach siding to it.
Attach the starter strip to the plywood but don t nail it so tightly that it will restrict the strip s movement.
Horizontal siding may be beveled in shingle form or tongue and groove.
The bottom of the vinyl corner will be 1 2 inch lower than the bottom horizontal strip.
This renders the siding vulnerable to moisture and voids the warranty even if you seal the hole.
To prevent the relatively thin panels from buckling observe these fitting and nailing rules.
The siding slides behind vinyl siding trim pieces that hide the gap and the cut end.
Make sure the line is level.
Vinyl siding can expand and contract 1 2 12 7mm or more over a 12 6 3 81m length during normal year round changes in temperature.
Vinyl siding installation is designed to hang loosely on the sheathing so that it can expand and contract with temperature changes.
If you want to hang something from your vinyl siding don t even think about drilling through it to attach a hook to the sheathing.
