How do i strip paint off a metal door.
Sometimes you need to strip paint.
As of now there is only one coat of paint on the door and it is peeling up.
Figuring out how to remove paint from metal doesn t have to be complicated or expensive.
Paint can be a force to be reckoned with.
I will be painting the exterior side and the interior side of the door.
Lightly sand the door then wipe it down to remove any lingering.
Here s how it works.
Hope you find this useful.
Take a paint scraper and chip off the bubbled paint from all the flat surfaces of the metal.
I would only really recommend this method if you need to remove small areas of paint.
The type of paint will determine the amount of effort involved in removing it.
The paint is peeling off my front door.
With the first door i actually damaged some of the moulding trying to remove the built up paint.
Faster than you could say strip paint off a door the moment was gone and i had popped open the can of primer and started over again.
It finds its way to surfaces it isn t wanted upon and dares anyone to try to remove it.
Remove the door if possible and cover any parts of the door you do not wish to paint.
For crevices and harder to reach areas switch to a scrubbing pad or nylon.
Thoroughly clean the door with a degreaser.
None of the better door is damaged at all.
Regular soap and water won t do much to relieve a metal door of this stubborn substance.
So depressing i wish i could have left the doors wood but they aren t in great shape and our side door was already painted a pretty vibrant green at this point.
This technique is best for removing old paint from items like hardware hinges knobs etc and is likely the fastest easiest and cheapest option if done correctly.
The door knob i restored was already pretty banged up so the steel wool didn t do much more damage to it.
I am going to repaint it and need to know the best way to do it.
